Q&A: Fair Use with Music Question?
Question by : Fair Use with Music Question?
I just got hit by SME (Sony Music Entertainment) for copyright infrignement on Youtube. I’m not sure which song it is that they are saying I infringed upon but in my video I used no song more than 50 seconds or 20% which ever was smaller. The only song that doesn’t fit that is a song from a friend of mine that i sing about half of.
I also sing over the top of the lyrics. It’s not really a big deal, but my video is banned in Germany and I don’t want to lose my ability to upload more than 15 minutes.
My question: Is this copy right in fringement?

Fair Use does not allow you to use any part of a song in that form. Singing over a song likewise is not allowed, nor is just singing the words to a song (in that case you still violate the rights of the author, and perhaps the performer of the music).
Stop using their music in any form or you will be banned.
