apparently if u are an underground artist u “arent nice”

i guess only commercial artists like Plies and Lil Wayne who sell alot of records are good..

The main answer is that they aren’t heard by as many people, and a lot of people have the mentality of “if I haven’t heard it, it must not be good.”

What I have also heard, both on Y!A and with others, is the belief that if an artist has been independent or underground for a while, and has not yet been signed to a major label, then they must not be good otherwise they *would* be on a major label. People say that like it’s the goal of every musical artist to get signed to a major. The problem with that logic is that there are PLENTY of independent acts who have either been on a major or been offered a contract by a major and elected to remain independent. Doing so allows them to retain complete control over their work and, most importantly, actually own it.

    Dave Chapelle 4 Prez Says:

People who really listen to rap (not just the mainstream stuff) respect the independent artists, because most of them are actually better than the major artists. They aren’t exposed to the public like a Wayne or a 50, so nobody knows about them, and they have no way of finding out about them.
