Question by Skifty: What instruments sound good with a Guitar?

So I’ve got some friends at school who are really good at Guitar. I know little myself although I don’t really wanna get into it. I would rather play an instrument that sounds good with a guitar, Something almost like a guitar, Not quite Bass. Just, something that can play just about anything the Guitar can. I was thinking about Violin but then, well, It just seems limited, To be honest, I wanna be able to play the melody WITH the guitar, or just the backup, but it needs to sound good. Thanks for the answers! c:

If you think the violin is limited, look up Vanessa Mae. She is probably on Youtube and plays rock violin.

If you don’t want to spend much money, buy a few harmonicas in different keys. Really easy to learn – and sounds great as accompaniment or even as the lead. Or you could try a dobro. It plays just like a guitar but has a completely unique sound. (Think of “Romeo and Juliet” by Dire Straits and you’ll understand what I mean.)

Harmonica would be good, but if you want something with strings, you might consider banjo, autoharp, mandolin, or mountain dulcimer.

    Mandolin, dobro, and banjo.

Mandolin works really well with guitar. Or banjo. You can play chord backup or melody on either one.

Bass guitar and Guitar go hand in hand. Personally, I like to work with a piano when I jam or, another guitar.

Other than another guitar, I enjoy the soft, subtle tones of a clarinet with the guitar.
