Question by ABRAXAS: Why does recording an album for a major label cost so much?
Nirvana’s Bleach was like $ 600 while others cost in the millions.

really recording doesn’t cost that much for it. i don’t know where you got that idea. nirvana produced a very lo fi sound so yeah. also it wouldn’t cost anybody one million dollars to record and album. you’re getting that number from how much money it gets and how much money you will receive when the label signs you.

It doesn’t cost anywhere a million dollars to record an album. the only way you spend money on RECORDING an album is if you are not signed.

    The actual recording isn’t what costs so much. It’s the marketing, etc. Don’t get me wrong, though, a smart studio will charge and arm and a leg for a well-known artist.
