I have been considering a wave drum and when I saw the price of this version I decided to finally get one. This version is mustard yellow [ hard to lose it! ] and comes with a power pack [I need to use a universal plug adaptor in NZ ] and clip on mic. It doesn’t have the leg strap or a user manual. Neither of these were issues for me; I can buy an elastic strap if I ever need one and the user manual and lots of video demonstrations are available online.
THE GOOD… It’s useful live looper. I can quickly lay down live loop tracks to play along with. They are lost when the device is turned off, but I can live with that.
The 100 preset tracks are quite good and mainly 4-4 and 3-4 beats with a bit of latin and electronica, though the tempos can’t be changed. It’s handy having a drum/percussion pad that can run on battery power and has a speaker for rehearsals and low volume jams, though it sounds better through a good amplifier.
Having a second sound source from the clip is a good feature. I leave a bass drum or sub assigned to the clip mic and then scroll through the sounds I want to play on the pad. You can also clip it on to your shoe, tambourine, tom or a shaker. . . pretty much anything you want and experiment with sounds. There’s even a video demonstrating a tap dancer using the mic to add new sounds to their performance available on youtube.
The pad has good dynamics and will produce an impressive variety of sounds based on how you play it [press, slap, location on pad and accent] and the dynamics you play it with.
THE NOT SO GOOD. . . Most of the sounds are very electronic, analog, 80′s type sounds. It has some good tabla, gong, shaker and conga sounds as well and I mostly use these. I already have drums and electronic drums with lots of sample sounds so the 100 sounds available on this drum are fine for me. The drum allows you to edit the sounds and put effects on them, but I haven’t needed to do that yet.
For the price it’s a good deal and worthwhile addition. No its not as impressive as a stand alone instrument as the wave drum but it is under 1/5th of the price I’d pay for a wavedrum global here.

My nephews and I have been having a lot of fun making little Jams with this and basically making a racket. It is very good for this purpose and you won’t be dissapointed if you buy it for that purpose. The cheaper Japanese units(made in China) are exactly the same as the American marketed ones by 75- 200 dollars depending where you purchase them, a big difference. The Japanese one I received from Amazon came with a Japanese manual, sound clip, and power plug(you can google the English manual from Korg) and for some reason they don’t come with the leg strap:(

The one major gripe I have about the unit is that the volume of the on-board speaker is so low that only about a third of the total sounds it makes are audible. The cymbal in a drum kit might not be audible nor the lower levels of a drum. Some sounds are not audible at all. Luckily I have a little Vox DA-5 Guitar amp that is also battery powered and works beautifully with this. I suppose a good mp3 player speaker could also be used if you didn’t go crazy and pop it. So- as a stand alone instrument it is lacking because of the low volume of the speaker, but amped it is pretty awesome.
